About the Laser

Nordlys IPL laser treatments with extremely short pulses can provide highly effective results in treating very fine telangiectasias (the smallest capillaries), persistent hyperpigmentation, and rosacea. The Nordlys features Square Pulse technology (no superficial heating), minimizing the risk of side effects like burns.
SWT technology, combined with Square Pulse Technology, allows treatment of skin types from 1 to 6. The ND Yag and Frax 1550 Nm probes are equipped with Soft Cool technology, which ensures better protection of the skin’s surface and makes the treatment less painful.

Indications

Most Commonly Treated Skin Conditions

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation appears on the skin as spots that are darker than the surrounding skin due to increased melanin production, the pigment that gives skin its color.

Types of Hyperpigmentation:

  • Solar Hyperpigmentation - Caused by frequent sun exposure without protection.
  • Melasma - A type of hormonal spot resulting from hormonal imbalance.
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation- Occurs due to injury, cuts, burns, or acne. Although hyperpigmentation is usually harmless, it can affect physical appearance and is often desired to be removed. The most effective way to remove hyperpigmentation is IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) laser therapy.

Laser photorejuvenation, besides effectively removing spots, stimulates the synthesis of new collagen, making the skin appear visibly fresher and younger. The mechanism involves transforming laser light into thermal energy, targeting and breaking down melanin in the treated area. Optimal results require 2-4 treatments, spaced one month apart.

Telangiectasia

Telangiectasia, also known as "spider veins" or "capillary networks," are dilated blood vessels (capillaries) on the skin’s surface, appearing as small red or bluish expanded capillaries forming a network or spider-like shape. They are usually painless but can result from various factors, including genetic predisposition, sun exposure, aging, pregnancy, hormonal changes, skin injuries, or certain medical conditions. They are successfully treated for aesthetic reasons with the Candela Nordlys laser platform.

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are linear, streak-like skin atrophies caused by reduced skin elasticity, leading to the rupture of elastic fibers in the dermis. They appear as grooves and form permanent damage, varying in depth and color from pink, red, purple to several shades lighter than natural skin tone. They are often caused by excessive skin stretching due to obesity, pregnancy, or continuous physical activity, with a significant genetic factor involved.
The collagen structure of stretch marks differs significantly from healthy skin. Since they affect the deeper layers of the skin, they cannot be corrected with topical products alone. The most effective method for removing stretch marks is laser treatment.
The Candela Fractional laser works at the middle skin layer (dermis) while leaving the surface intact. Apart from peripheral redness and a warm sensation, there are no other adverse reactions, allowing patients to quickly resume their usual activities. The laser operates on the principle of selective photothermolysis, stimulating epidermal renewal and dermal collagen remodeling, significantly improving scar tissue, skin quality, and tone. Results are noticeable after the first treatment, with optimal results requiring a series of 4-6 treatments at one-month intervals. Each treatment reduces scar tissue. A combination of treatments like laser and mesotherapy, laser and PRP, or laser and dermapen is also recommended.

Scars

With the fractional laser, the laser beam is divided into very small fractions like water droplets. The laser beam penetrates the middle skin layer, forming a microthermal zone (MTZ) aimed at creating new collagen fibers. The result is the regeneration of scar tissue to a level of minimal visibility.
